It is amazing the amount of scrap metal collectors you not only see but hear driving around the streets during the weekend, not one weekend goes by without hearing the familiar sound of the horn and the announcement of any old iron, scrap metal and then the annoying horn again. When I look out of the window their vans are always full of old bikes, ovens, washing machines anything really that could be worth their weight in metal. It is quite unbelievable that we as house owners can generate such scrap metal on a weekly basis when we are supposed to be in the middle of a recession.
